About Us
Living Green is a program within SNAP, a non-profit community action agency that serves low-income and vulnerable people in Spokane. The Living Green Program grew out of the Conservation Education Program, Housing Improvements Division of SNAP. Living Green expanded Conservation Education to include more topics, with an emphasis on treading lighter on the earth and saving money at the same time. The mission of Living Green is to enable individuals to move towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

Living Greens primary method of educating the community is through Home Gatherings and Community Classes, held at various locations around Spokane (such as ECEAP and Head Start meetings, Community Centers, and libraries). Our program greatly depends on committed volunteers who serve as Community Educators, taking the message of Living Green to their community. We also depend on concerned citizens, parents, students, and others, who open up their homes and host a Living Green Home Gathering. Home Gatherings provide the perfect setting to learn about the wide range of sustainability issues and to engage in a stimulating discussion.  Living Green Home Gatherings are fun, unique and informative.

If you've begun to wonder about the future of food, the future of energy, and the future of the environment, invite this grassroots program to your home and we will bring all we know about Living Green. Learn how you can cut back on energy and water consumption, alter your transportation and buying habits, make your own non-toxic household cleaners, and learn how to compost and recycling to lower your garbage bill.  Participants come from all income levels, but low-income attendees receive an energy kit filled with energy-saving goodies for free.
